Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as Computer algorithms has become a game-changer in Ophthalmology by ensuring easy analysis of medical data to detect Diabetic retinopathy, Glaucoma, and other diseases in their early stages. Dr. Antriksha Wahi, AIIMS stated that AI is not a replacement for Doctors instead it is a helping tool that makes computers self-sufficient in the diagnosis and detection of diseases in their early stages. The diagnosis of a disease by AI is a mechanical process that requires human intervention for further interpretation and treatment.

Dr. Wahi also added that AI plays an important role in Ophthalmology by detecting diseases such as retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, etc. in the early stages. She also stated that a study is underway at AIIMS, to maximize the use of AI in Corneal Opacity, Cataract screening, etc.
